"Educate a boy and you educate an individual, but educate a girl and you educate a community." Wise words indeed ! This project shows how the interest of the girl child has always been sacrificed to accomodate her brothers. If the parents have money to educate only one child, you can be sure that they will choose to educate the boy. Also in every other sphere of life, the girl child has to compromise.
This is where the good samaritans of Sister Nivedita Foundation - Ushaben Jani , Gulabbhai Jani and their team come in. They strongly believe that Education can empower women and through them, the future generations. They provide scholarships to girls from very poor families, enabling them to finish their education.
While we were shooting, a girl told us that my parents give money to my brother even if he wants to buy tobacco but not to me if I want to buy a book. This made us very sad and got us thinking. We have experienced the intelligence of these girls and have seen their dedication towards education first hand. We feel they should get full support from the society and their parents - which is what we hope this film will achieve !
